Nothing special yet. Blunt- had to sharpen blade.
Got a splinter on the wooden handle in first week.
Not really impressed but time will tell.

After 30 odd years my old spade gave up – straight edges became impossible. With this new one I found it did straight edges and even cut those nasty fibrous roots.

Excellent spade. Modestly heavier than the other rubbish on the market, but that is to be expected given the quality. It has not bent in half yet, like my previous “brand name” spade. You get what you pay for. Great service from Garden Ware also.

When we bought our 30+ years ago I bought a good quality fork and spade. The fork handle broke last year and I bought a replacement “made” the same company from a large retail chain. The tines bent the first time I used it so it ended up in the bin. I bought a “heavy duty” form from the same place; this time the tines broke off. I bought a Bulldog garden fork and no-one from my family has been able to break it so I had no hesitation of replacing my broken spade with a Bulldog digging spade. Due to the absolute rubbish coming out of China into all Australian hardware chains, I buy all my garden tools on line coming to Gardenware first.

The same tough excellence to complement that of the Bulldog garden forks I already have.

After cracking the shafts of two spades I went looking for a quality product. I have found a Beauty at Gardenware. This spade has done all that is being asked of it. We are renovating a very large garden so it really is getting a good workout. A great product at a fair price.

This is a great product, my husband is quite tall so a long handle makes for a much more comfortable back. The new price is also great, this product is definitely worth its cost. It is a bit more expensive than your average hardware store variety but it is quality and will last forever, so in the long run it will work out to be more economical anyway.

I imported this spade into New Zealand as I was sick of the cheap stuff on the shelves in the local shops. Since then I have used it very frequenly on our 2-acre garden and it has become a trusted friend – it has shifted a lot of soil. You won’t break this spade under normal usage conditions, it takes a good edge and is a pleasure to use (apart from the edge on the Y part of the handle which I sanded off). The finish isn’t quite as good as you’d have got 30 or 40 years ago, however, compared with other spades on the market today, it is a big step above in overall quality and strength. I’d recemmend this brand to anyone who is serious about gardening. Check out their web site for how these blades are forged.
