I recently received an email from Jasmine Rizvi who is on a mission to save the honeybees.
There has been a lot of discussion in the media about the decline of the honeybee population. I knew that honeybees were important because they pollinate our plants but I didn’t realise HOW important they were until I did some research.
This led me to watch an interesting interview with Dr Denis Anderson, a world renowned bee pathologist, about honey bees and the threat they face from the varroa destructor mite. Australia is the only country in the world to be free of this mite for now – but according to Dr Anderson, it is only a matter of the time before it reaches our shores.
Back to Jasmine.
Jasmine has a website that sells cute shoes called ‘Honeybees‘. The shoes are made from 100% recycled rubber and are packaged in re-processed cardboard. For every pair sold, $2 is then donated to Dr Denis Anderson’s bee research organization Bees Downunder.
When you purchase these shoes, you know that you are contributing to saving the honeybee – one stylish step at a time!
